How to Choose the Perfect Wedding Photographer for Your Big Day

Your wedding day is one of the most important days of your life, and choosing the right photographer is essential to capturing all the special moments and emotions of the day. With so many options available, it can be overwhelming to know where to start. Here are some tips to help you choose the perfect wedding photographer for your big day.

Determine your photography style

Before you start searching for a wedding photographer, it's important to know what style of photography you prefer. Do you prefer classical, posed shots or candid, spontaneous images? Are you drawn to contemporary, editorial-style photography or more traditional, classic photography? Knowing what you like will help you narrow down your search and find a photographer who specialises in your desired style.

Do your research

Once you have a clear idea of what you're looking for, it's time to start your research. Ask friends and family members for recommendations, browse online portfolios, and read reviews from past clients. Look for photographers who have a portfolio that showcases their skills and the style of photography you prefer.

Check availability

Before you make a decision, be sure to check the photographer's availability on your wedding date. You don't want to fall in love with a photographer's work only to find out that they're already booked on your wedding day.

Schedule consultations

Once you've narrowed down your list of potential photographers, schedule consultations to meet with them in person. This will give you an opportunity to see more of their work, ask questions, and get a sense of their personality and approach. You'll also be able to get a feel for how well you connect with the photographer, which is important since you'll be spending a lot of time with them on your wedding day.

Review contracts and pricing

Finally, be sure to carefully review the contracts and pricing of any photographers you're considering. Make sure you understand what's included in the package, such as the number of hours of coverage, the number of images, and the cost of prints and albums. You should also make sure you understand the payment schedule and any additional costs that may be involved.

Choosing the right wedding photographer is an important decision, but with a little research and careful consideration, you can find the perfect photographer to capture the special moments of your big day.

Ceoimhe & Ciaran

Ceoimhe & Ciaran tied the knot last Friday on what was the most gorgeous day for December. As the two got ready next door to each other, we managed for them to get a first touch with their precious dog involved also. The reception was held in the wonderful Darver Castle near Ardee. After a great dinner, the speeches were fun and then some dancing to round the evening off.

Congratulations to the Bride & Groom.

Claire & Colm

Claire’s mum Pauline is a cousin of mine so this was a little different for me. I arrived early with Claire and the girls where I can assure you there was lot of fun going on. Hair & Make Up were in full swing and then there was a little prosecco flowing. Everyone there was looking forward to getting to the Church then onto the beautiful setting that is Beech Hill Country House.

Colm was getting ready in Culdaff with the boys where Tom Nicholl was capturing the fun there. They had a little bit of a drive to the Church so an early start for all. Some bonding time and a few beers and off they went.

Claire was keen to get to the altar so she took no time at all in getting ready and out the door. She came down the stairs to her dad Eddie with a big smile on his face and Claire was just gorgeous.

It was off to the Church and then onto Beech Hill for everyone. The weather was lovely and plenty of time for photos for everyone.

Claire & Colm did not want any fuss in terms of photos and I feel the images reflect that. For me it is important to listen to what the Bride & Groom want and to do my best to get that.

Thank you to Claire & Colm and congratulations on your wedding once again - Gerard Gormley

Mary & Andre

Mary & Andre got married in Letterkenny with the reception at Drumhalla House near Rathmullan - it’s very seldom you see the bride singing for her groom but we go that here - hardly a dry eye in the Church - such emotion. The weather stayed dry and sunny so we got some photos near Ramelton then headed to the gorgeous estate of Drumahlla.

Many congratulations to Mary & Andre

Georgina & Stephen

Georgina & Stephen celebrated their wedding day on 5th May 2022 at Long Tower Church in Derry and then held their reception at Redcastle Hotel in Donegal.

What a gorgeous day they got and it was filled with fun, laughter and love all day long. I feel really blessed when asked to take photos at a wedding so thank you both.

I went to Georgina first where the craic was 90 and no sign of nerves at all. It was the usual madness at any bride’s house on the morning of a wedding but this was also laid back with lots of fun.

Chloe McEleney was there for the ladies hair and Lauren Carton was there for Make Up.

I called with Stephen, albeit very briefly, where the boys were just having a laugh and looking very dapper.

Fr Paddy celebrated the Mass which was lovely and then we left for Lisnagra Woods near Muff in Donegal for some photos of the bridal party.

Then was the hotel and the celebrations really got under way. I stayed until a few dances in and by the time I left the whole place was dancing.

Steph & John

This is a short blog about my first wedding on my own as a professional photographer. I had known Steph through some work at her then work and through my work then which was selling shoes. I did some work with her work through Womens Aid and then did a family shot with Steph, John and the kids shortly after. John then popped the question and fortunately i got to do the wedding also. I was a tad nervous to be honest but so excited at the same time. When I got to Steph’s house i really wondered why I was so nervous as it was so laid back and chilled. I was made more than welcome and the day flew in. It was very easy to get photos of the couple. Marty Crawford was helping out that day and he went to the grooms house while I was with the bride. Very easy to work with Marty and his work as always was excellent. The Church service was made easy as Fr Chris Ferguson was in charge - always fun. We got some photos of the family at the Church and headed to Ballykelly Forest for some wedding party shots. We then went to the Roe Park Hotel in Limavady for the reception. I have always been grateful to Step and John for allowing me to share their day - thank you both.

At Gerard Gormley Photography I am a Derry Wedding Photographer, Donegal Wedding Photographer and a Tyrone Wedding Photographer - also work as Ireland Wedding Photographer.

If I can help in any way then please get in touch - thanks Gerard
