Throwback to 2018 The Wedding of Peter & Lorna

Peter & Lorna got married on 14th August 2018 at Bishop’s Gate Hotel in Derry, the wedding between Peter & Lorna took place.  I was there for a little while just to get some photos of the newly married couple. At Gerard Gormley Photography, I like to take photos in a fun, natural and classic way.  The guests were all gathered at the hotel when I arrived.  I met Peter and Lorna and we decided just to do some images inside in the beautiful library area of the hotel.  The light was almost perfect for us and as you can see below, we got some lovely images.  Many thanks to Peter & Lorna for allowing me to enjoy their day, if only for a little while.  I wish you both many happy years together.  Please feel free to contact me if I can help with any photography needs.  You can get me here or on Facebook at Gerard Gormley Photography.

A little about me.

I’ve spent years helping people to find the perfect sole. In my shoe shop in the heart of Derry and now through my passion for photography
I get to photograph people with their soulmates! My daughter Bronagh and parents have always been and always will be a big part of my life. We have shared so many moments and enjoy looking at older photos and laughing together. Moments and the moments between moments during a wedding or a portrait session hold so much emotion. I love to capture images in a fun, natural and classic way. I’ve been passionate about photography for years, from the darkroom to my digital camera today, and storytelling is at the heart of what I do. I’m Gerard and I look forward to telling your story.

Bride on the Wedding Morning

Bride on the Wedding Morning – here are a few images from getting ready to meeting the man she loves. This is Martina and Justin’s wedding. The morning of a wedding can be chaos but it is so much fun. This is obviously the bride’s house and will be very different to the groom’s house. Here you have hair and make up along with so much stuff going on. The main focus is the bride but if kids are involved things can get tricky lol. These images are when everyone is ready and starting to get ready for the trip to the Church.

Gerard Gormley - Wedding Day Essentials

Wedding Day Essentials

Wedding Day Essentials

Wedding Day Essentials – well where do I start on this one. I am just going to try and give any couple a few ideas about going about planning their day.

For starters, there are just too many things that I would not be able to help or give advice on so I will just try and stick to the photography end of things. I am sure i will go off on the odd tangent so apologies in advance.

Photography

So photography – where do I start? For any couple looking to book a photographer, they should probably start with a website. The vast majority of professional photographers will spend some money on a website. This is just to showcase their work. It is generally one of those things that most people seem to look for. Most people can take a photographer (or any other wedding vendor) seriously, if they have a website. That said, I would also check out the Facebook and Instagram pages of said photographers as usually there are many more images to browse through. I personally find more of the social media pages to have more candid images. I prefer the more natural poses as opposed to the very posed images. Please don’t get me wrong, i always get some posed images also – i just prefer to document the day by capturing moments and creating memories.

Contacting the Photographer

Once you find a photographer that you like then just make contact with them and have a chat – the more popular photographers are booked up a long time in advance so you will have to find out if your date is free in their calendar. If the photographer is free then it is very simple just to make a booking fee payment to secure the date. I will offer an engagement / pre-wedding shoot for all couples. I think this can be important more for the couples as it gets them used to being in front of a camera. If the couple know that all is under control then it helps them to relax. You can then enjoy the day while the photographer just gets on with the job. Also for the photographer, it allows them to see what the couple prefers and just to get to know them a little bit better.

Checklist on the Day

There are some images that the photographer will want to capture.

  • Bride getting ready
  • Dad seeing his daughter in the dress for the first time
  • Bride going to the car
  • Bride outside Church with parents
  • Father or Mother giving away the bride.
  • Vows / Exchanging Vows and of course the Kiss
  • Register signing and walking down the aisle
  • Wedding couple shots along with wedding party shots
  • Cutting the Cake

In the morning I will also look for detail shots. This will include rings, garter and gifts. It is also lovely to capture exchange of gifts between family and wedding party. During the day I will be looking all over for some candid images of guests. During the speeches I will be concentrating on the top table. It usually pays off to keep a close eye on guests also at this time. We then come to the first dance which is always fun. After that there are just candid shots of the dancing.

Of course this does not cover it all. As a photographer, I will be snapping away all day.

Pre Wedding Shoot with Christina & Noel

Pre Wedding Shoot with Christina & Noel. I met up with Christina & Noel yesterday for a pre wedding photo shoot. It is always good to try and get couples used to the idea of being in front of a camera. Noel told me that he had never did this before, but, after yesterday I think he was having a laugh. He loved it lol. Christina was just brilliant, and now really looking forward to their wedding this month. We went to Lisnagra Woods near the village of Muff in County Donegal.  The weather was a little off so we knew we would be under the trees for a little protection.

The woods at Lisnagra are west of Muff and can be reached by turning right at Harkins on the way to Derry. They featured recently on RTE and BBC but are not generally known as a tourist attraction. Some visitors have seen squirrels emerge from the wood, and they are quite numerous. A walk through the woods on a warm day is something to remember. Muff is a village in County Donegal, Ireland. It is near the mouth of the River Foyle and sits at the border between the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland.

The village of Culmore and the city of Derry are to the south. We chose this location also for the pre wedding shoot as it is very close to where we all live in Derry. Many thanks for looking and please feel free to like and share this post – thank you again Gerard Gormley Photography, Derry.

At Gerard Gormley Photography, I strive to get the best photos possible. If i can help you in any way then please feel free to get in touch. You can also follow my work on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

Wedding Hire and Formal Wear Shoot

As part of my work with Local Women Magazine, I got to take some images for a local shop called Esquire that deals mostly in Wedding Hire and Formal Hire. We decided to do it in the evening for a change to see how it turned out – well it turned out great. Young Juan was the model for us and he did great. Men’s Wedding Hire has become very popular in recent years. At Gerard Gormley Photography I strive to get the best images possible. Please feel free to follow me on Facebook also at Gerard Gormley Photography. If I can help with any photography needs then please get in touch.

Ina Wilson 80th Birthday

Ina Wilson 80th Birthday was some fun for all there. I was asked to take pictures at an 80th Birthday Celebration in Maggies Tavern for the lovely Ina Wilson.  What a night it was.  It was great fun but i should say the lady celebrating her birthday is 80 years young!  The family had gathered to party for the young lady – Ina made a grand entrance to cheers and applause – she loved it all.  As per usual at Gerard Gormley Photography, i like to take pictures in a natural, fun and classic style.  I am sure a good night was had by all and looking forward to many more years of celebrations.

Women in Enterprise

Women in Enterprise is always fun to go to. I went along to a Women in Enterprise Event at the City Hotel in Derry with Local Women Magazine.  There were a lot of women involved in business at the event.  It was a full house.  There was a great atmosphere at the event.  As usual at Gerard Gormley Photography, i wanted to capture some moments from the evening.
