Gillian and Dee Wedding Day

Gillian and Dee Wedding Day

Gillian and Dee Wedding Day – where do i start? It was a fun filled day from start to finish. Gillian was just gorgeous and Dee was looking well also. Kids always make photos more fun so their two children were just brilliant to have on board. One was a little more sticky which proved great for photos because Dee and Gillian wanted candid images. From the church, we went to Bishops Gate Hotel in the town. This was great as it as not too far away. On arriving there, guests were there before us so plenty of photos immediately. Here are some black and white images from the day.

A little about me.

I’ve spent years helping people to find the perfect sole. In my shoe shop in the heart of Derry and now through my passion for photography
I get to photograph people with their soulmates! My daughter Bronagh and parents have always been and always will be a big part of my life. We have shared so many moments and enjoy looking at older photos and laughing together. Moments and the moments between moments during a wedding or a portrait session hold so much emotion. I love to capture images in a fun, natural and classic way. I’ve been passionate about photography for years, from the darkroom to my digital camera today, and storytelling is at the heart of what I do. I’m Gerard and I look forward to telling your story.

At Gerard Gormley photography, I strive to get the best images possible. Please feel free to share and like this post. You can also follow my work on FacebookInstagram and Twitter.

Wedding Day Essentials

Wedding Day Essentials

Wedding Day Essentials – well where do I start on this one. I am just going to try and give any couple a few ideas about going about planning their day.

For starters, there are just too many things that I would not be able to help or give advice on so I will just try and stick to the photography end of things. I am sure i will go off on the odd tangent so apologies in advance.

Photography

So photography – where do I start? For any couple looking to book a photographer, they should probably start with a website. The vast majority of professional photographers will spend some money on a website. This is just to showcase their work. It is generally one of those things that most people seem to look for. Most people can take a photographer (or any other wedding vendor) seriously, if they have a website. That said, I would also check out the Facebook and Instagram pages of said photographers as usually there are many more images to browse through. I personally find more of the social media pages to have more candid images. I prefer the more natural poses as opposed to the very posed images. Please don’t get me wrong, i always get some posed images also – i just prefer to document the day by capturing moments and creating memories.

Contacting the Photographer

Once you find a photographer that you like then just make contact with them and have a chat – the more popular photographers are booked up a long time in advance so you will have to find out if your date is free in their calendar. If the photographer is free then it is very simple just to make a booking fee payment to secure the date. I will offer an engagement / pre-wedding shoot for all couples. I think this can be important more for the couples as it gets them used to being in front of a camera. If the couple know that all is under control then it helps them to relax. You can then enjoy the day while the photographer just gets on with the job. Also for the photographer, it allows them to see what the couple prefers and just to get to know them a little bit better.

Checklist on the Day

There are some images that the photographer will want to capture.

  • Bride getting ready
  • Dad seeing his daughter in the dress for the first time
  • Bride going to the car
  • Bride outside Church with parents
  • Father or Mother giving away the bride.
  • Vows / Exchanging Vows and of course the Kiss
  • Register signing and walking down the aisle
  • Wedding couple shots along with wedding party shots
  • Cutting the Cake

In the morning I will also look for detail shots. This will include rings, garter and gifts. It is also lovely to capture exchange of gifts between family and wedding party. During the day I will be looking all over for some candid images of guests. During the speeches I will be concentrating on the top table. It usually pays off to keep a close eye on guests also at this time. We then come to the first dance which is always fun. After that there are just candid shots of the dancing.

Of course this does not cover it all. As a photographer, I will be snapping away all day.

Aideen & Paddy’s Wedding

Aideen & Paddy’s Wedding took place on what was a gorgeous day in May although there was the odd rogue rain shower. The service took place in the gorgeous setting of Thornhill near Derry. We got some photos here then onto some local gardens for more photos. The reception was held at Roe Park Resort in Limavady where Aideen had some photos in mind. Needles to say it was a fun day from start to finish and these are only a few images of the day. The window in the church at Thornhill is one of my favourite places to take a photo. It just seems to be a magnet for me but i know other photographers love it too. Many thanks to both Aideen and Paddy for allowing us to share in their big day.

Gillian & Dee’s Wedding

Gillian & Dee’s Wedding took place on 25th January 2020. The church service was held at Glendermott Chucrh of Ireland followed by a reception at Bishop’s Gate Hotel in Derry. The service itself was very nice and then there was a lot of fun and dancing at Bishop’s Gate Hotel. The Wedding of Gillian and Dee was the first wedding for me this year.

Chaps SubZero Limavady

Chaps SubZero Limavady was one of the shoots i had last month with Local Women Magazine. Chaps SubZero is a Ladies & Mens Fashion shop. As a photographer I always strive to get the best images possible. We had great fun as we did the shoot at a local venue. The weather was great which always helps but we had to look for shade as the sun was strong. Laura Downey and Jessica Doherty were the models for the day and as always they were brilliant. It is always fun when working with these two.

A Wedding Shoot at Roe Park

A wedding Shoot at Roe Park – i was asked by Local Women Magazine recently to get some images from a Wedding Shoot at Roe Park resort. It was a gorgeous day. Sometimes bright sunshine is not the best conditions for photos but we managed ok. Jessica Doherty and Rory Cooke were the two models for the day and yes they were both brilliant during the day. Esquire Wedding and Formal Wear supplied the men’s suits. Victoria Ivy Bridal Emporium supplied the wedding dresses. Hair and make up was by Ashburn Image.

Roe Park Resort is one of Northern Ireland’s premiere golf and spa resorts.

Pre Wedding Shoot with Christina & Noel

Pre Wedding Shoot with Christina & Noel. I met up with Christina & Noel yesterday for a pre wedding photo shoot. It is always good to try and get couples used to the idea of being in front of a camera. Noel told me that he had never did this before, but, after yesterday I think he was having a laugh. He loved it lol. Christina was just brilliant, and now really looking forward to their wedding this month. We went to Lisnagra Woods near the village of Muff in County Donegal.  The weather was a little off so we knew we would be under the trees for a little protection.

The woods at Lisnagra are west of Muff and can be reached by turning right at Harkins on the way to Derry. They featured recently on RTE and BBC but are not generally known as a tourist attraction. Some visitors have seen squirrels emerge from the wood, and they are quite numerous. A walk through the woods on a warm day is something to remember. Muff is a village in County Donegal, Ireland. It is near the mouth of the River Foyle and sits at the border between the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland.

The village of Culmore and the city of Derry are to the south. We chose this location also for the pre wedding shoot as it is very close to where we all live in Derry. Many thanks for looking and please feel free to like and share this post – thank you again Gerard Gormley Photography, Derry.

Womens Inspire Network – Harvey’s Point, Donegal 2019

I met a lady recently called Samantha Kelly at a Women in Enterprise Event in Derry. I then had the pleasure of being asked to take photos at a conference called Women’s Inspire Network being held at Harvey’s Point near Donegal town. Samantha is really an incredible lady who goes by the name of “The Tweeting Goddess” which comes from her expert knowledge of the social network platform Twitter. Anna Daly the Irish TV Presenter was there to host the event and proved very popular. The event was very well attended on what was the most gorgeous day from a weather point of view. The conference itself was very entertaining and the speakers were very well versed on what they talked about. There were many speakers in attendance and covered many topics. There was a fabulous social aspect on the day and everyone there was more than generous with their knowledge in order to help each other. At Gerard Gormley Photography I strive to get the best images possible so please feel free to get in touch if I can help in any way with your photography needs. Please feel free to share this post.
