Kaily Photo Shoot in Derry

Kaily Photo Shoot

I went along to the Waterside railway station in Derry for the Kaily Photo Shoot. We met Kaily a couple of months ago. I noticed her walking along the river Foyle in Derry.  Just had to ask to take her photo and she said yes. She is just so natural at posing and loves getting her photo taken. The first photo shoot was only a few minutes long. This time we met at the railway station. I had the platform shot in mind but we also got some images at the riverside. It was a cool evening but dry and nice. We fortunately got permission to go onto the platform where it was quiet. Then we went over the side of the river where we got some nice lights of the town in the background.

I get to photograph people with their soulmates! My daughter Bronagh and parents have always been and always will be a big part of my life. We have shared so many moments and enjoy looking at older photos and laughing together. Moments and the moments between moments during a wedding or a portrait session hold so much emotion. I love to capture images in a fun, natural and classic way. I’ve been passionate about photography for years, from the darkroom to my digital camera today, and storytelling is at the heart of what I do. I’m Gerard and I look forward to telling your story.

Aaron’s First Communion

Aaron’s First Communion

Aaron’s First Communion took place on 30th September 2020. A Family Communion is always a special day. Strange time for a communion due to Covid. We met at the Craft Village in Derry City Centre just after the service. The weather was good to us if only a little cool. Aaron’s first communion was a bit of craic from now on. We walked around the Craft Village where there are so many great places for photos and then went onto the Derry Walls which has many spectacular views. We used the area around the Guildhall a lot with great background views. I got the kids jumping around which helped to relax them. The kids really enjoyed it when i got their mum and dad to do the same lol.

Dobbins Family Communion

Dobbins Family Communion

The Dobbins Family Communion took place this week where  Finn was the star of the show. His father Simon was trying to be the star but just couldn’t do it this time. We met at St. Columb’s Park House early evening and the weather was just lovely – a little cool but nice. This was basically a family photo shoot. It turned out to be great fun. I know Simon and the family so the craic was good. We just went for a walk around the park. We ended up at the swings with all the kids. Some kids had to move so we could get some photos but they were ok about it. The usual parents kissing above the child photo was great fun with poor Finn cringing and his mum and dad loving it of course.

Zara & Tiernan Photoshoot

Zara & Tiernan Photoshoot was such a fun photo shoot – most of the time lol. This was a shoot that was put back due to Covid. This was supposed to happen at the end of March but just didn’t happen. Zara & Tiernan are two very special kids who are also blessed to have two special mums, Rosin & Aoife. We met at St. Columb’s Park recently and just went for a walk. To see the special bond between this family was really lovely to witness and capture. I am only showing a few images as there are so many. Zara & Tiernan Photoshoot is a shoot i will always remember. We just had a lot of fun. The two kids were just like any other kids with plenty of laughs and tears. The photos speak for themselves I think.

Bride on the Wedding Morning

Bride on the Wedding Morning – here are a few images from getting ready to meeting the man she loves. This is Martina and Justin’s wedding. The morning of a wedding can be chaos but it is so much fun. This is obviously the bride’s house and will be very different to the groom’s house. Here you have hair and make up along with so much stuff going on. The main focus is the bride but if kids are involved things can get tricky lol. These images are when everyone is ready and starting to get ready for the trip to the Church.

Benito Rodriguez Photo Shoot

Benito Rodriguez Photo Shoot.

Benito Rodríguez made his operatic debut in 2011 with the character of Rodolfo in Puccini’s “La Boheme” in Mexico City. Since then he has sung that role on several occasions in other cities in Mexico, the United States and Canada.

It has been performed at festivals and opera houses in many countries.

In 2019, he recorded Gounod’s opera “Faust” with the UK National Symphony Orchestra.

In that same year, he participated with HBO as an actor and opera singer in that chain’s new show, “The nevers”, directed by renowned producer and film director Joss Whedon.

He also had the honor of singing the New York premiere of the opera “Il Postino” by composer Daniel Catán and the world premiere of “Shulamit” by composer Dina Pruzhansky.

She continued her training under the guidance of Maestro Plácido Domingo and the international soprano Nelly Miricioiu, mentor of the Jette Parker Program at the Royal Opera House, with whom she has participated in multiple concerts and operas.

In addition to being an opera singer, Benito is a cultural promoter, supporting Mexican singers through the Opera Studio Beckmann, giving them the opportunity for an operatic preparation of the highest level, with renowned teachers from Mexico and the world.

Gerard Gormley - Wedding Day Essentials

Wedding Day Essentials

Wedding Day Essentials

Wedding Day Essentials – well where do I start on this one. I am just going to try and give any couple a few ideas about going about planning their day.

For starters, there are just too many things that I would not be able to help or give advice on so I will just try and stick to the photography end of things. I am sure i will go off on the odd tangent so apologies in advance.

Photography

So photography – where do I start? For any couple looking to book a photographer, they should probably start with a website. The vast majority of professional photographers will spend some money on a website. This is just to showcase their work. It is generally one of those things that most people seem to look for. Most people can take a photographer (or any other wedding vendor) seriously, if they have a website. That said, I would also check out the Facebook and Instagram pages of said photographers as usually there are many more images to browse through. I personally find more of the social media pages to have more candid images. I prefer the more natural poses as opposed to the very posed images. Please don’t get me wrong, i always get some posed images also – i just prefer to document the day by capturing moments and creating memories.

Contacting the Photographer

Once you find a photographer that you like then just make contact with them and have a chat – the more popular photographers are booked up a long time in advance so you will have to find out if your date is free in their calendar. If the photographer is free then it is very simple just to make a booking fee payment to secure the date. I will offer an engagement / pre-wedding shoot for all couples. I think this can be important more for the couples as it gets them used to being in front of a camera. If the couple know that all is under control then it helps them to relax. You can then enjoy the day while the photographer just gets on with the job. Also for the photographer, it allows them to see what the couple prefers and just to get to know them a little bit better.

Checklist on the Day

There are some images that the photographer will want to capture.

  • Bride getting ready
  • Dad seeing his daughter in the dress for the first time
  • Bride going to the car
  • Bride outside Church with parents
  • Father or Mother giving away the bride.
  • Vows / Exchanging Vows and of course the Kiss
  • Register signing and walking down the aisle
  • Wedding couple shots along with wedding party shots
  • Cutting the Cake

In the morning I will also look for detail shots. This will include rings, garter and gifts. It is also lovely to capture exchange of gifts between family and wedding party. During the day I will be looking all over for some candid images of guests. During the speeches I will be concentrating on the top table. It usually pays off to keep a close eye on guests also at this time. We then come to the first dance which is always fun. After that there are just candid shots of the dancing.

Of course this does not cover it all. As a photographer, I will be snapping away all day.

Crowley Family Photos

Crowley Family Photos was a little project a couple of days ago with strict social distancing of course from me. I met Pamela, Grace and the kids at Lisnagra woods near Muff in Donegal and the photos tell the story. It was lovely seeing them all and just great to see kids out in nature having fun. Crowley Family Photos was something that i did before and i am sure it will happen again. Always difficult for a young boy when surrounded by three women lol.

D Cooley Jewellers

D Cooley Jewellers on Shipquay Street in Derry is a family owned business. I have known the family for a long time. I did some product photography for them recently with the images below. A little more difficult to do this at the moment with the Covid Lock Down. D Cooley Jewellers are closed at the moment but still open for business online.

Aideen & Paddy’s Wedding

Aideen & Paddy’s Wedding took place on what was a gorgeous day in May although there was the odd rogue rain shower. The service took place in the gorgeous setting of Thornhill near Derry. We got some photos here then onto some local gardens for more photos. The reception was held at Roe Park Resort in Limavady where Aideen had some photos in mind. Needles to say it was a fun day from start to finish and these are only a few images of the day. The window in the church at Thornhill is one of my favourite places to take a photo. It just seems to be a magnet for me but i know other photographers love it too. Many thanks to both Aideen and Paddy for allowing us to share in their big day.
