Gillian and Dee Wedding Day

Gillian and Dee Wedding Day

Gillian and Dee Wedding Day – where do i start? It was a fun filled day from start to finish. Gillian was just gorgeous and Dee was looking well also. Kids always make photos more fun so their two children were just brilliant to have on board. One was a little more sticky which proved great for photos because Dee and Gillian wanted candid images. From the church, we went to Bishops Gate Hotel in the town. This was great as it as not too far away. On arriving there, guests were there before us so plenty of photos immediately. Here are some black and white images from the day.

A little about me.

I’ve spent years helping people to find the perfect sole. In my shoe shop in the heart of Derry and now through my passion for photography
I get to photograph people with their soulmates! My daughter Bronagh and parents have always been and always will be a big part of my life. We have shared so many moments and enjoy looking at older photos and laughing together. Moments and the moments between moments during a wedding or a portrait session hold so much emotion. I love to capture images in a fun, natural and classic way. I’ve been passionate about photography for years, from the darkroom to my digital camera today, and storytelling is at the heart of what I do. I’m Gerard and I look forward to telling your story.

At Gerard Gormley photography, I strive to get the best images possible. Please feel free to share and like this post. You can also follow my work on FacebookInstagram and Twitter.

Wedding Day Essentials

Wedding Day Essentials

Wedding Day Essentials – well where do I start on this one. I am just going to try and give any couple a few ideas about going about planning their day.

For starters, there are just too many things that I would not be able to help or give advice on so I will just try and stick to the photography end of things. I am sure i will go off on the odd tangent so apologies in advance.

Photography

So photography – where do I start? For any couple looking to book a photographer, they should probably start with a website. The vast majority of professional photographers will spend some money on a website. This is just to showcase their work. It is generally one of those things that most people seem to look for. Most people can take a photographer (or any other wedding vendor) seriously, if they have a website. That said, I would also check out the Facebook and Instagram pages of said photographers as usually there are many more images to browse through. I personally find more of the social media pages to have more candid images. I prefer the more natural poses as opposed to the very posed images. Please don’t get me wrong, i always get some posed images also – i just prefer to document the day by capturing moments and creating memories.

Contacting the Photographer

Once you find a photographer that you like then just make contact with them and have a chat – the more popular photographers are booked up a long time in advance so you will have to find out if your date is free in their calendar. If the photographer is free then it is very simple just to make a booking fee payment to secure the date. I will offer an engagement / pre-wedding shoot for all couples. I think this can be important more for the couples as it gets them used to being in front of a camera. If the couple know that all is under control then it helps them to relax. You can then enjoy the day while the photographer just gets on with the job. Also for the photographer, it allows them to see what the couple prefers and just to get to know them a little bit better.

Checklist on the Day

There are some images that the photographer will want to capture.

  • Bride getting ready
  • Dad seeing his daughter in the dress for the first time
  • Bride going to the car
  • Bride outside Church with parents
  • Father or Mother giving away the bride.
  • Vows / Exchanging Vows and of course the Kiss
  • Register signing and walking down the aisle
  • Wedding couple shots along with wedding party shots
  • Cutting the Cake

In the morning I will also look for detail shots. This will include rings, garter and gifts. It is also lovely to capture exchange of gifts between family and wedding party. During the day I will be looking all over for some candid images of guests. During the speeches I will be concentrating on the top table. It usually pays off to keep a close eye on guests also at this time. We then come to the first dance which is always fun. After that there are just candid shots of the dancing.

Of course this does not cover it all. As a photographer, I will be snapping away all day.

Crowley Family Photos

Crowley Family Photos

Crowley Family Photos was a little project a couple of days ago with strict social distancing of course from me. I met Pamela, Grace and the kids at Lisnagra woods near Muff in Donegal and the photos tell the story. It was lovely seeing them all and just great to see kids out in nature having fun. Crowley Family Photos was something that i did before and i am sure it will happen again. Always difficult for a young boy when surrounded by three women lol.

D Cooley Jewellers

D Cooley Jewellers on Shipquay Street in Derry is a family owned business. I have known the family for a long time. I did some product photography for them recently with the images below. A little more difficult to do this at the moment with the Covid Lock Down. D Cooley Jewellers are closed at the moment but still open for business online.

Aideen & Paddy’s Wedding

Aideen & Paddy’s Wedding took place on what was a gorgeous day in May although there was the odd rogue rain shower. The service took place in the gorgeous setting of Thornhill near Derry. We got some photos here then onto some local gardens for more photos. The reception was held at Roe Park Resort in Limavady where Aideen had some photos in mind. Needles to say it was a fun day from start to finish and these are only a few images of the day. The window in the church at Thornhill is one of my favourite places to take a photo. It just seems to be a magnet for me but i know other photographers love it too. Many thanks to both Aideen and Paddy for allowing us to share in their big day.

Spanning over a period of almost 35 years, Foyle Hospice has become synonymous with palliative care services and support across the North West.  As an organisation, we are very proud of our reputation and extremely privileged to have cared for almost 16,000 patients and their families to date. Kular Fashion Show for the Hospice has been going a few years now and is always sucessful. AMD Models from Derry were there to display the clothes.

Jude Bradley’s Confirmation

Jude Bradley’s confirmation took place recently at St. Eugene’s Cathedral in Derry. I met His mum and dad, Leona & Mark at Brooke Park in Derry which is very close to the Cathedral. Thee weather at that stage of the day was nice so we got some nice photos but not long after we left the weather changed. The family then went to the City Hotel in Derry for a party with friends and family. I met them there for some more photos before the eating started. Jude Bradley’s Confirmation was fun for all the family. We got lucky with the weather for the park but the rain can be fun also.

Richard Turner Cars

Richard Turner Cars is a fellow member of Foyle Business Network so we try and do what are called “one to ones” every week. Basically this means going to visit each other for a chat. By doing this we help each other out in maybe finding new customers. It is a good way of getting to know each other and is great fun. I have got to know Richard now since last June and he is a very pro active member of the group. Richard Turner Cars is the business which Richard owns along with his son Ciaran so maybe call in and support a local trader. I believe, most importantly, even more than ever that we must support local because if we don’t then we all lose out.

I called today for a chat and it was good fun. We found out a few new things about each other. Finally, I know from listening to Richard at the meetings every Tuesday morning that he is always keen to get the best deal possible for the customer and not necessarily for himself.

And now for me.

Gillian & Dee’s Wedding

Gillian & Dee’s Wedding took place on 25th January 2020. The church service was held at Glendermott Chucrh of Ireland followed by a reception at Bishop’s Gate Hotel in Derry. The service itself was very nice and then there was a lot of fun and dancing at Bishop’s Gate Hotel. The Wedding of Gillian and Dee was the first wedding for me this year.

Foyleside Shopping Centre

Foyleside Shopping Centre is where i met Yasmin from SnazzyYazzi Style Blog recently. Yasmin does an article once a month for Local Women Magazine so i come along and get the photos. It is always fun. We do usually end up in Foyleside Shopping Centre due to the volume of people there – it is usually busy. For some reason we usually go on a Sunday but now wait until after 2pm to start but usually go for coffee first.
